Meet Duke Skygawker
A stargazer on Beaver Island, Michigan — a certified dark sky place — on a mission to help everyone trade glare for galaxies.
Why Beaver Island?
Beaver Island sits far out in northern Lake Michigan, miles from the glow of any city. On a clear, moonless night the Milky Way arcs from horizon to horizon, and the Andromeda Galaxy is visible to the naked eye. It is, quite simply, one of the best places in the Midwest to meet the universe.
What we do
Duke Skygawker organizes regular telescope gatherings on the island. Whether you have never looked through an eyepiece or you bring your own rig, you are welcome. We set up a field of telescopes, share the view, and talk about what we're seeing.

The mission
Dark skies are a shared resource, and they disappear one porch light at a time. Our goal is simple: encourage every home and business to switch their exterior lighting to red. It is the single easiest thing any of us can do to bring the stars back.
